THERE'S NO ESCAPING IT
by Gwen Elwood.

Sometimes I leave
My chores behind
And try to get them
Off my mind.

But then I see
That while I play
They never seem
To go away.

And when I try
To laugh instead,
Those duties scream
Inside my head.

Oh, if I had only
Reached their end
Before leaving
With a friend!

Then I would see that
When they're through
There's lots of time
For fun to do.

And instead
Of feeling bad,
With homework done
I could feel glad.

Yes, it is only when
The work is done,
That you can truly
Go have fun.
